The MPBL Playoffs: How Do They Work?
Once the season is over, the top eight teams in each division qualify for the playoffs. Seeds are issued in the order of ranking, with 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, and 4 vs. 5 making up the first round of the postseason bracket.
Each round of the playoffs is made up of best-of-three series. The two teams that win the bracket for each division advance to the MPBL Finals to compete for a championship in a best of five series.
History Of The MPBL
Boxer Manny Pacquiao is retired professional boxer and a former Senator of the Philippines. He is arguably the most famous Filipino athlete of all time, and in 2018, he decided to give back to his home country by creating the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
The MPBL’s teams are comprised of athletes that are from the same area as the where the franchises is located. Each roster is allowed exceptions, but to this day, MPBL teams contain players that were born locally.
In 2021, the league rose to the professional ranks and now houses a talent pool that the PBA often dips into for free agency signings.
