Mage is an American thoroughbred who won the 2023 Kentucky Derby. The horse was born in Kentucky and is a chestnut colt bred by Grandview Equine. In 2021 Mage was sold to New Team from the Runnymede Farm consignment for 235k.
Mage finished second only to Forte in his two previous races leading up to the 2023 Kentucky Derby. After Forte was scratched from the derby, Mage took the top spot on the odds boards.
Another favorite is National Treasure, a horse trained by Bob Baffert, a world-renowned trainer that has won the Preakness seven times. Baffert is suspended from all Churchill Downs properties and stated that the suspension hurt his reputation.
